Have you seen it?
Spent over five hours today being asked 'Have you seen it?'. The poeple assuming that a) I am a birder and b) that I knew what 'it' was. Luckily they were correct on both accounts. 'It' being a Hoopoe. 'It' being spotted recently in what turned out to be a nice area of land south of Alton. However, 'it' wasn't spotted by me or anyone I spoke to that day.

I always thought Hoopoes were put in British bird books as a joke. You say they really exist?
I know! We've twice been on the Alton Hoopoe Hunt - no joy either time! But we did see a lot of birders ...
